Newcastle attempting to bring back Andy Carroll

Newcastle attempting to bring back Andy Carroll

After four difficult years at Liverpool and West Ham, plagued with injuries and a lack of game time, Andy Carroll is a target for Newcastle United – the club where it all began for the England man.

Newcastle, who sold Carroll in the summer of 2011 to Liverpool for a record £35 million are looking to bring the powerful striker back to where his career kick-started in an attempt to revive his form from his younger days.

Manager Steve McClaren is looking to strengthen his attacking options in January as his side find themselves sitting dangerously low in the table, at 17th in the league.

Although Carroll came off the bench to score a winner against Chelsea for West Ham a couple of weeks ago in a 2-1 home victory, it is clear that he is simply surplus to requirements for Slaven Bilic’s men.

The 26-year-old has featured for The Hammers in just 33 times since 2013 when he joined for a hefty fee of £15 million, and has scored only eight competitive goals during his heavily interrupted West Ham career to date.

With strikers such as Enner Valencia, Diafra Sakho, Nikica Jelavic and Mauro Zarate in the ranks at West Ham; it is hard to see Carroll breaking into Slaven Bilic’s long term plans at the club, and could ultimately result in the towering striker to be sold in either January or next summer.
