West Ham battling Everton and Aston Villa for Brazilian star

Italian media outlet Calcio Mercato are claiming that the Hammers are among three Premier League sides chasing Fluminense midfielder Jean. The 29-year-old, who has never played consistent club football outside of South America, is said to be considering his options ahead of the January transfer window.

Jean has six international caps with the Brazilian senior side, helping them achieve Confederations Cup glory in 2013. He predominantly features as a defensive midfielder, but is also capable of filling in at right-back.

His only taste of English football was a friendly at Wembley a couple of years ago, in which England were victorious in a 2-1 win. Aston Villa and Everton are also keeping tabs on the experienced Fluminense man.

Pedro Obiang and Alex Song made the move to the Boleyn Ground during the summer, so it would be difficult to foresee where the Brazilian would fit into the first team setup. He has made over 200 club appearances in the Brazilian top tier.
