Former West Ham and Arsenal man hopeful of Premier League move

In spite of being released by West Ham United, Guy Demel is keen on making an imminent return to the top tier of English football. Simon Jones of the Daily Mail reports that the Ivorian, who is currently a free agent, is close to sealing a deal with a Premier League club.

The 34-year-old’s agent is confident that the right-back will be playing football again very soon. Demel was said to be close to joining Ligue 1 outfit Montpellier earlier in the summer, however a deal was never struck between the two parties. He scored one goal in 76 league appearances for the Irons.

His agent has spoken out on the matter, saying that: ‘Guy has got plenty of experience and is versatile. He is a great option on a free and we have a few clubs showing an interest in England and abroad.‘ This suggests continental clubs are also keeping tabs on the veteran.

Demel retired from international football back in 2012, having made 35 caps for the Ivory Coast. This would perhaps give English clubs the incentive to take someone on board with such high levels of experience, as well as not having to worry about injuries sustained during international breaks.
