Barton says West Ham will regret not signing him

Joey Barton has branded clubs such as West Ham who didn’t sign him in the summer as ‘lazy’.

In an interview with The Telegraph, the Burnley midfielder said that for lower table Premier League clubs, his signature should have been a ‘no-brainer’.

West Ham almost signed the former Newcastle United player in the summer, although for circumstances still unknown the deal was called off.

“It just never got over the line. It was the 11th hour. It was really late and really disappointing. I felt I could have played there, but West Ham’s loss will be Burnley’s gain.”

Barton had been a free agent since being released by Queens Park Rangers at the end of last season. He says that even though Premier League football is what he wants, he believes that Burnley will be playing it very soon. In the interview, he states that clubs rejected him due to his past and the sketchy reputation he carries with him, however, he is determined to change that now.
