West Ham fail in bid to sign Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez

West Ham United have missed out on another striker, as Javier Hernandez – also known as Chicharito – is instead on his way to Bayer Leverkusen of the Bundesliga.

The German side have acquired the Mexican on a three-year deal, according to Matty Lawless of the Daily Mail:

The Hammers had previously been reported as being in the race for the 27-year-old poacher, who gained a reputation at Old Trafford for scoring goals as a substitute, but the Bundesliga side – who can offer the carrot of Champions League football, having qualified for the group stages with a victory over Lazio in the final qualifying round – are understood to have outbid the Hammers with a £12 million offer.

With Andy Carroll, Enner Valencia, and Mauro Zarate all recovering from injury, Diafra Sakho is currently the only fit senior player at the position for the Hammers. As such, the search for a striker is certain to continue.
