West Ham’s move to sign Juventus striker Simone Zaza on a season-long loan has fallen through.
The Hammers had agreed a deal with the Serie A champions to take the 24-year-old for the season for a £2m loan fee, with an option to buy next summer for £11.5m.
However, Sky Sports understand that Juventus have now pulled out of a deal to let the striker leave on loan.
Juventus only signed Zaza in a €15m deal from Sassuolo this summer after the five-time Italy international scored 11 goals for the relegation candidates last season, helping them beat the drop.
The Champions League runners-up continued to spend in the attacking third of the pitch, bringing in Mario Mandzukic from Atletico Madrid and Paolo Dybala from Palermo, making Zaza the fourth-choice forward going into the season.
West Ham will now need to look elsewhere for a striker this season, with all four of their first-team options struggling through injury.
The club did receive a boost today though, as Andy Carroll made a return to first-team training, and he could feature against Liverpool on the weekend.
