Alex Song WILL join West Ham on a three-year deal, pending medical

There were initial reports on Twitter mainly from Spain that Alex Song is set to be loaned backed to West Ham for another season from Barcelona.

These reports have now been confirmed by co-owner David Sullivan speaking on the KUMB podcast but for a permanent deal for the 27-year-old. Here’s what Sullivan had to say;

We have a deal in place with Alex Song subject to a medical, if the medical is ok, we’ll take him. “He’s injured at the moment, which is something you’ve got to weight up. But we’ve got until September 1st to make a decision.

The Cameroon defensive midfielder spent last season at West Ham and made 31 appearances for the club in all competitions. Today’s reports now suggest he could be set to make to make the permanent move from Barcelona to London in the very near future.

There are doubts over the condition of Song which Sullivan went on to mention;

“He couldn’t physically pass a medical tomorrow, but if the medics say it’s just a technical thing and he’s only a couple of weeks away you’d take that gamble and hope they’re right.”He’ still got two years left on his Barcelona contract and you’re signing a player on a three-year contract, so it’s a huge commitment. He’s a big earner, Alex

“On his pre-Christmas form he was possibly the best player we’ve ever signed. But after Christmas he was just another player. Maybe there’s reasons for that and maybe we’ll see the true Alex Song and maybe he’ll make a huge contribution this year”

matchday.
