West Ham open talks to sign versatile Belgian defender

West Ham closing in on Belgian fullback Anthony Vanden Borre according to native source Sport.

Anderlecht are keen on offloading fullback Anthony Vanden Borre. Labeled as an ‘enfant terrible’ he was under a lot of criticism, which eventually resulted in a warning by manager Herman van Holsbeeck.

“He needs to be really careful. I want to give young people chances when they are in a trouble, but he keeps falling in to old habits. Don’t disappoint the people who gave you a chance.”

The Zaire born defender previously had spells at Portsmouth, Genoa, Fiorentina and KRC Genk.

Several unnamed clubs from France, Turkey are also interested in the 27-year-old.

He can offer more depth in our defensive line, as well as a chunk of experience. Being a right back he will offer some competition to Carl Jenkinson.

With Jenkinson having signed a new long-term deal with Arsenal before returning on loan to West Ham, it wouldn’t be a terrible idea for the Hammers to eye up a long-term option.
