West Ham target set to join rivals Southampton

West Ham United look set to miss out on Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly, as the defender nears a move to fellow Premier League side Southampton.

The 24-year-old looks set to make the move to St Mary’s for a fee of around £8.5million, as he opts to join up with Ronald Koeman as opposed to Slaven Bilic. The Irons were reportedly interested in the Frenchman, who can also play as a right-back.

TalkSport report that the centre-half will sign for the Saints, in an attempt by the Southern side to improve their defence, as they have already conceded five goals in their two opening games.

The Hammers have already signed multiple players from the Italian top tier this summer, with Angelo Ogbonna joining from Juventus and Pedro Obiang signing from Sampdoria.

Koulibaly only joined Napoli last summer and was signed by Rafael Benitez, and scored one goal and recorded one assist in 27 appearances. He has no international caps for Les Bleus.
