Everton to beat West Ham to the signing of Barcelona midfielder Alex Song

Everton have edged ahead of West Ham in the race to sign midfielder Alex Song from Barcelona this summer.

The Cameroonian midfielder has been long linked with a permanent move to Upton Park following his impressive loan spell last season, but the Hammers have been struggling to agree a deal with Barcelona.

West Ham had been hoping to sign Song for a nominal fee having agreed personal terms with the player, but the La Liga champions are demanding a larger sum of money in order to sell the player, who has no future at the club and is one of their bigger earners.

Now, reports from Spanish source Fichajes are stating that Everton are now ready to offer €5m to Barcelona in order to complete the signing of Alex Song, who is eager to return to English football.

Song was struggling with a floating bone in his ankle but underwent successful surgery to have it removed, however, he would still be out of action for the next few weeks as it recovers.

It’s possible that the links between the 27-year-old and Everton are a ploy to have West Ham stump up a bigger fee, but with the transfer window moving to a close, you cannot possibly rule out the fact that Song might not return to the club.
