Rob Green set to re-join West Ham as QPR bid for replacement

QPR goalkeeper Rob Green is set to return to West Ham as Rangers make a bid for Huddersfield Town stopped Alex Smithies.

It was reported earlier in the week that the former England international has told his friends that he’d be re-signing for the Hammers before the end of the transfer window, which now looks even more certain.

Rangers have launched a £1.5m bid to sign highly-rated Huddersfield Town goalkeeper Rob Green amid speculation he is set to leave the club, claim the Daily Mail.

QPR have already lost one ‘keeper in Alex McCarthy this summer as he left to join Crystal Palace, and it looks like Rob Green will follow suit.

The 35-year-old spent six seasons at Upton Park, making 241 appearances and broke into the England squad during his time at the club. He was also part of the squad that secured promotion back to the Premier League in 2012 – his final act as a West Ham player.

QPR are eager to shed some money off the wage bill before the end of the summer, and Green’s £50,000-a-week wages could be an easy way of doing that with teams interested.

West Ham signed Darren Randolph on a free transfer following his release from Birmingham City in June, but he has been less than impressive in pre-season and the Europa League, which has forced the Hammers to look to bring in an experienced hand to back up Adrian, who was sent off late on in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Leicester City, a decision the club will not appeal against.
