West Ham captain Kevin Nolan has again hinted at a West Ham departure as he expects Mark Noble to replace him as club captain.
The 33-year-old signed for West Ham four years ago from Newcastle under Sam Allardyce – a former manager of his during his time at Bolton and Newcastle, and was immediately installed as the club captain.
However, with playing time dwindling at Upton Park as new, exciting players are being brought into the club, Nolan understands there could be a changing of the guard coming, which could see him leave.
“He wears his heart on his sleeve,” Nolan told the official site.
“He is a fantastic boy. I enjoyed my time here with him, I hope he has learnt from the way I have skippered the side and the way I am with everyone. He tells me he has learnt a lot.
“He has definitely got to be skipper of this club, well that’s who I am tipping anyway, in the next year or so. You can see how much Sunday meant to him.”
The Express reported earlier this summer that Nolan would look to leave the club if he’s not getting regular game-time, and that former club Bolton would be interested in bringing him back.
However, wages would be a real problem, as the Championship side would ask him to take a major wage cut from his £50,000-a-week deal he’s currently on, which expires next summer.
