West Ham Lose Out In Valbuena Race

West Ham Lose Out In Valbuena Race

West Ham have seemingly missed out on the signing of French talisman Mathieu Valbuena, according to L’Equipe.

The 30-year-old currently plies his trade at Dynamo Moscow but has concerns that he will be overlooked by Didier Deschamps, when selecting his squad for the European Championships next summer, if he remains in Russia, and, therefore, wants to move.

Newcastle and West Ham have both been linked with a move for Valbuena, but it seems Olympique Lyonnais have won the race for his signature. He has already met with the Ligue 1 outfit’s hierarchy and is prepared to take a significant pay-cut in order to force a move.

Lyon are yet to agree a fee with Dynamo for his signature but, with Valbuena desperate to return to his home country, it seems inevitable that a deal will be struck.

The Hammers were resigned to missing out on Valbuena and have already turned their attentions to Barcelona wonderkid Alen Halilovic. The 19-year-old is expected to sign for West Ham this week after the clubs agreed a fee in the region of £5million.
