West Ham have come to an agreement “in principle” with Ligue 1 side SC Caen for the signing of N’Golo Kante.
The Hammers are chasing a new defensive midfielder as the deal to sign Alex Song from Barcelona is stalling, and have identified Kante as an ideal arrival this summer.
The Caen defensive midfielder caught the eye last season, making the most successful tackles in all of French football, and has been likened to a modern-day Claude Makelele.
An agreement in principle has been reached for his transfer, say GFFN, which is rumoured to be in the region of €10m.
Alex Song’s proposed transfer to West Ham has hit a snag as there is a dispute between the length of contract offered.
West Ham want to give Song a one-year deal for him to prove his fitness, with a two-year option, whereas the Cameroonian is looking at a straight three-year contract to secure his long-term future.
