The French international midfielder was released by the Gunners this summer after nine years in North London, where he suffered an incredible 42 different injuries.

West Ham and West Brom were said to have made offers for the defensive midfielder, who rejected both and is now believed to be on the verge of signing for Marseille.

The Ligue 1 side are hoping to get the best out of the 29-year-old, who has always impressed for Arsenal – when fit.

The Hammers, struggling to get a deal over the line for Alex Song, with the Barcelona midfielder holding out for a three-year contract with the Hammers, who are only interested in a one-year ‘prove it’ contract.

Song is interested in a return to West Ham on a permanent basis, but it’s unsure whether they can resolve their current contractual dispute.
