We were able to sit down this week with West Ham twitter personality @WestHam_Central about all things West Ham.
How did you become a West Ham fan?
West Ham runs through my family, my Dad has been a supporter for all his life and every generation up to my great great great grandad (who was born in 1900) have been Hammers.
What inspired you to create your account?
I just wanted to find a better way to interact with people about West Ham. I thought about making a WHU news account for a while and in December 2013 I finally went for it…and the rest is history.
What do you make of Sam Allardyce leaving?
It was the right choice. No-one can’t fault Sam for what he did for the club. To take a relegated team straight back to the Premier League and settle us as a middle table club for 3 seasons straight is quite an achievement and was basically what he was asked to do, not to mention 3 wins in a season against Tottenham! For the future though, we want to grow, and expand, and Sam isn’t the man to help us progress.
Did you want Bilic to be our manager, or would you have preferred Bielsa?
I knew this question would pop up someway or another! I’ve always not been very keen on Bilic – not because he is a rubbish manager, but because of the other names we’ve been linked with. Bielsa has a bigger background and a bigger plan for the future of West Ham, plus more experience and the ability to bring some top Marseille stars to the Boleyn Ground. It’s Bielsa for me, but I’ll also support Bilic if he’s appointed!
What are your feelings towards Andy Carroll?
I like him! Andy has been so unlucky throughout his West Ham career with injuries and setbacks which he can’t be blamed for. I feel we paid a stupid amount for him however, considering that we knew he had injury problems. At the end of the day, when big Andy plays, he terrorises defences with his strength and aerial ability. An injury free AC will notch 15-20 goals a season.
If you could sign one (realistic) target, who would it be and why?
Honestly? I’d like Charlie Austin of QPR. The bloke is only 25 and a potential swap move for Jarvis + cash is already being talked about. To score 18 in 36 appearances (1 goal every 2 games) for a relegated club, who finished bottom may I add, is remarkable. Plus, the guy is English! Sign him up.
Do you think Europa League football is a good thing for the club at this stage?
Undecided. Torn. Unsure. Obviously I’m excited at seeing how far we can progress in the Europa League, but the problem is – squad depth, squad fitness, and 13 games in 2 months!! Time will tell. Viva Kazakstan away.
Favourite West Ham player, past or present?
You may think it’s an odd choice but for me it’s a no brainer. Mr Scott Parker. The guy was my childhood hero and I worshipped him. The passion and the effort he put into West Ham was incredible and he was just an amazing player. He controlled everything we did.
