Next West Ham manager odds: Former Hammers’ midfielder in the frame as favourite

West Ham boss Nuno Espirito Santo

West Ham United have sacked Nuno Espírito Santo, with a former Hammers’ midfielder installed as a bookies’ favourite to replace the Portuguese coach.

The storm clouds had been gathering over the London Stadium following the two damaging, consecutive home defeats to Southampton and West Brom.

It had been suggested that Nuno needed to win the final two games before the international break to save his job, but the axe has fallen.

West Ham chiefs have stepped in with a decision, which gives them time over the next fortnight to get the new appointment in place.

Mark Noble, Steve Potts and Gerard Prenderville will oversee preparations for the trip to Cardiff on Wednesday night, with the trio in temporary charge of the first team.

That will likely stay the same for the Championship fixture against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.

Nuno has been sacked, so who will be the next West Ham manager?

Skybet has a familiar face leading the field, with former Hammers midfielder Scott Parker listed at Evens to take the job.

He is priced ahead of Kieran McKenna, Craig Bellamy, and Rob Edwards, with Thomas Frank and Sean Dyche following behind.

*Update – the market has now been suspended.

Claret and Hugh has reported that the former Burnley, Bournemouth, and Fulham boss is a “leading candidate”, but the process is ongoing.

The leading fan media outlet quoted a West Ham insider as saying:

“There are a few candidates. At this moment, Scott Parker is the most likely but it’s not done.”
