West Ham United Women ended their pre-season preparations with a 0-0 draw against Aston Villa at Keys Park on Sunday afternoon.
Rita Guarino’s side kept a clean sheet in their final friendly before the start of the new Barclays Women’s Super League campaign, with the official West Ham match report confirming the goalless draw.
The result brings West Ham’s summer programme to a close ahead of next weekend’s WSL opener away to Tottenham Hotspur.
West Ham Women finish pre-season with Villa draw
West Ham travelled to Keys Park looking for one final examination before competitive football returns.
Guarino has overseen significant change during the summer, with several new arrivals settling into a squad that finished last season strongly.
Sunday’s stalemate at least ensured the Hammers ended pre-season with another clean sheet against established WSL opposition.
Aston Villa provided a useful test before the campaign begins, particularly given the teams will meet twice competitively later in the season.
West Ham’s official pre-match guide had identified the Villa fixture as the final opportunity for Guarino to assess her squad before the opening weekend.
Tottenham opener now comes into focus
Attention now turns immediately towards Tottenham.
West Ham begin their 2026/27 WSL season away to Spurs on Sunday 6 September at 12pm BST, with the club’s official ticket page confirming the opening fixture.
That gives Guarino one week to make the final decisions over her starting XI.
The Hammers will then host London City Lionesses and Everton as part of their opening run, making a positive start important for a squad looking to build on last season’s progress.
West Ham had already been preparing intensively for the new campaign at Chadwell Heath, with the club documenting the squad’s final week of pre-season training.
Sunday provided the final competitive rehearsal.
There were no goals, but a clean sheet against Villa gives Guarino a solid defensive platform before the games that matter begin.
