West Ham United have completed the sale of El Hadji Malick Diouf to Brentford, with the defender leaving east London after just one season at the club.
Both clubs have now officially confirmed the permanent transfer, completing a deal previously reported to be worth £35million plus a further £5m in add-ons. Brentford officially described the fee as undisclosed.
The move comes after West Ham gave Diouf permission to undergo his Brentford medical on Thursday.
West Ham complete Malick Diouf transfer
Diouf has signed a five-year contract with Brentford, with the Premier League club holding an option for another year.
The 21-year-old leaves West Ham having spent only the 2025/26 campaign at the London Stadium.
He made 32 Premier League appearances last season and registered five assists after joining from Slavia Prague in a deal worth around £19m.
West Ham therefore stand to make a substantial profit if the full reported £40m package is eventually reached.
The Hammers had initially valued Diouf considerably higher earlier in the summer, with Sunderland and Brentford both pursuing the Senegal international.
Brentford eventually returned to negotiations this week before West Ham accepted an agreement worth an initial £35m with £5m potentially following in add-ons. (BBC Sport)
Diouf’s departure now increases the pressure on Nuno Espírito Santo and West Ham’s recruitment team to strengthen at left-back before the transfer window closes.
Our recent West Ham transfer blueprint identified that position as one of the club’s clearest remaining priorities.
Ollie Scarles provides Nuno with a natural option on the left, but Diouf’s exit leaves the Hammers short of senior depth as they pursue an immediate return to the Premier League.
