West Ham hold Michael Keane talks as Everton defender available

West Ham United are considering a move for Everton centre-back Michael Keane as Nuno Espírito Santo looks to strengthen his squad before the transfer window closes.

The 33-year-old is understood to be available, presenting the Hammers with another potential defensive option during the final days of the window.

ExWHUEmployee reports via The West Ham Way that West Ham are looking at a move for Keane.

West Ham eye Michael Keane transfer

Keane remains part of Everton‘s first-team squad but has faced competition for regular football at the Premier League club.

The England international was among the substitutes for Everton’s 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace last weekend, with James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite starting centrally.

A move for an experienced defender would make sense for West Ham given the amount of change already taking place in Nuno’s squad.

The Hammers are approaching £200million in reported outgoing transfer packages this summer, and our assessment of West Ham’s remaining transfer priorities identified defensive depth as one of the areas still requiring attention.

West Ham could also lose further defenders before the window closes.

El Hadji Malick Diouf has already been given permission to undergo a Brentford medical ahead of a proposed £40million transfer.

There is no indication yet that West Ham have submitted an offer for Keane, so the situation remains at the interest stage.

However, his availability gives the club another option as Nuno attempts to complete his squad before the window shuts.
