West Ham United are exploring an ambitious double loan move for Arsenal pair Reiss Nelson and Ethan Nwaneri as Nuno Espírito Santo looks to add further attacking options before the transfer deadline.
According to a report attributed to The Athletic, the Hammers want to revive discussions over Nelson after talks between the two London clubs stalled in recent weeks.
West Ham are also interested in taking Nwaneri on loan, although Sunderland and Ipswich Town are said to be competing for the 19-year-old.
The proposed structures could prove the biggest obstacle.
Arsenal stance complicates West Ham double move
Arsenal are understood to prefer a permanent sale for Nelson, while West Ham remain focused on securing the winger temporarily.
That difference has been present throughout negotiations.
Earlier reporting established that Arsenal and West Ham had opened talks over Nelson, with the 26-year-old entering the final year of his contract. The Athletic previously reported that discussions were continuing over the structure of a potential move.
West Ham now appear ready to return to the table after prioritising other areas of Nuno’s squad.
Nwaneri represents a considerably more ambitious addition.
Arsenal are reportedly more receptive to a loan for the England youngster, who spent part of last season with Marseille and has returned to Mikel Arteta’s squad this summer. His future remains uncertain amid Arsenal’s crowded attacking options.
For West Ham, adding both players on temporary deals would allow Nuno to strengthen without committing significant transfer fees.
The Hammers have already added proven Championship firepower after completing the signing of Joel Piroe, but further creativity and depth out wide remains desirable.
Nelson would provide experience and versatility, while Nwaneri would offer the kind of high-level technical quality rarely available to Championship clubs.
West Ham’s willingness to insist on loans for both players could ultimately decide whether either deal advances.
Arsenal appear willing to discuss departures, but not necessarily on West Ham’s preferred terms.
