‘Here we go’ – West Ham agree Divine Mukasa return as medical booked

West Ham United have agreed a deal to bring former academy midfielder Divine Mukasa back to the club on loan from Manchester City, with a medical booked for Thursday.

Fabrizio Romano reports that the Hammers have completed an agreement for the 18-year-old on a straight loan with no option to buy.

Terms were agreed on Thursday after Manchester City gave Mukasa permission to undergo his medical, with the deal now moving towards completion.

The development follows earlier reporting from ExWHUEmployee.

Divine Mukasa set for West Ham return

Mukasa’s arrival would represent a homecoming for one of West Ham’s former academy prospects.

The attacking midfielder joined the Hammers at a young age and was part of the outstanding academy group which won the U18 Premier League South and FA Youth Cup in 2022/23.

Mukasa scored the decisive opening goal against Arsenal as West Ham clinched the U18 Premier League South title before leaving east London for Manchester City later in 2023.

He has since progressed into senior football.

Manchester City handed Mukasa his first-team debut last season and he has made six senior appearances for the club. He also spent the second half of the 2025/26 campaign on loan with Leicester City.

The youngster recorded two goals and three assists in 15 Championship appearances during that spell before returning to the Etihad Stadium.

City demonstrated their long-term faith in Mukasa earlier this summer by handing him a new contract running until 2030.

West Ham add another attacking option

A straight loan therefore allows City to continue controlling Mukasa’s development while giving West Ham another technically gifted attacking option for their promotion push.

Nuno Espírito Santo has already strengthened his squad significantly this week.

West Ham completed the signing of Joel Piroe on Wednesday, while the club continue exploring further additions before the transfer window closes.

Mukasa can operate as an attacking midfielder and in wider positions, giving Nuno another option behind the forwards.

There is also an obvious familiarity with West Ham.

Three years after leaving the Academy of Football for Manchester City, Mukasa is now set to return with senior Championship experience already behind him.

His medical is booked for Thursday, putting West Ham in position to complete another addition quickly.
