West Ham United have agreed a deal for Aaron Wan-Bissaka to join Aston Villa, just hours after rejecting the Premier League club’s opening loan offer.
The 28-year-old will initially move to Villa Park on loan, but the agreement includes an obligation to make the transfer permanent at the end of the season.
Wan-Bissaka has now been given permission to travel for a medical in the Midlands, with Standard Sport also confirming that Villa and West Ham have reached an agreement.
The exact financial terms of the obligation have not yet been disclosed.
West Ham agree Aaron Wan-Bissaka exit
The speed of the breakthrough is particularly notable.
Earlier on Tuesday, ReadWestHam reported that West Ham had rejected Aston Villa’s straight-loan proposal, with the Hammers having valued Wan-Bissaka at around £25million.
Villa have now returned with a structure West Ham are willing to accept.
Instead of a temporary move with no guarantee beyond this season, the obligation means Wan-Bissaka is expected to leave east London permanently providing the terms required to activate the clause are satisfied.
That gives West Ham significantly greater certainty over a player who had already moved outside Nuno Espírito Santo’s immediate plans.
Wan-Bissaka has missed the Hammers’ first two competitive matches of the season while negotiations over his future have continued.
He joined West Ham from Manchester United for around £15m in 2024 and remains contracted until 2031, meaning the club were under little pressure to accept an unfavourable exit.
Aston Villa move brings rapid transfer saga towards conclusion
Villa’s pursuit accelerated significantly this week.
TalkSPORT reported earlier on Tuesday that Wan-Bissaka had become their primary right-back target as Unai Emery searched for competition for Matty Cash.
West Ham initially stood firm.
Only hours later, however, the structure of the negotiations has changed sufficiently for an agreement to be reached.
The DR Congo international must still complete his medical before the transfer can be finalised, but another significant West Ham summer exit is now close.
For the Hammers, the most important change from Villa’s rejected opening proposal is clear.
Wan-Bissaka can leave on loan now, but West Ham have secured a route towards making that departure permanent.
