West Ham agree £22m Arne Engels deal as Celtic finally accept bid

West Ham United have reportedly agreed a £22million deal with Celtic for Arne Engels, bringing one of the summer’s longest-running transfer pursuits close to completion.

The Arne Engels West Ham transfer is now expected to move towards personal terms and a medical.

Nuno Espírito Santo has made the Belgium international one of his priority additions throughout the window, with Celtic rejecting previous approaches before the clubs finally found an agreement.

ReadWestHam identified Engels as one of the three deals Nuno still needed to complete on Thursday night, alongside Edvin Austbø and Troy Parrott.

West Ham have now made a major breakthrough.

Arne Engels West Ham transfer agreed at £22m

ExWHUEmployee reports via The West Ham Way that West Ham have reached an agreement with Celtic worth around £22m.

The Scottish Sun has separately reported that Celtic have agreed to sell the 22-year-old for the same figure, with the midfielder now moving closer to leaving Parkhead.

Personal terms are not expected to prove problematic, while a medical will be among the next steps before the transfer can be completed.

Engels has been an important player for Celtic since joining from Augsburg in 2024. He made 46 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring seven goals as the Scottish champions completed a domestic double.

Celtic have also strengthened their midfield during the summer, including the signing of Mika Baur from Paderborn.

West Ham’s persistence therefore appears to have paid off.

After weeks of rejected bids and negotiations, the Hammers are now on course to land the midfielder Nuno has wanted throughout the summer rebuild.
