West Ham United have reached a full agreement with Celtic to sign Arne Engels for £22million, according to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg. Engels is set to sign a contract until 2031, with the transfer now expected to be completed.
The latest Arne Engels West Ham transfer update represents a significant progression after weeks of negotiations between the two clubs.
West Ham had already stepped up their pursuit of the Belgium midfielder, but Plettenberg is now reporting that a full club-to-club agreement has been reached.

Florian Plettenberg described the move as a “done deal”, reporting that West Ham will pay Celtic £22m for the 22-year-old.
Engels is expected to sign a long-term contract with the Hammers running until 2031.
Plettenberg also reports that former club FC Augsburg are entitled to 10% of the transfer fee, which he values at around €2.6m.
West Ham’s pursuit has moved quickly during the closing stages of the summer window.
ReadWestHam reported on Wednesday that the Hammers were preparing their biggest offer yet for Engels, with Celtic strengthening their midfield by reaching an agreement to sign Mika Baur from SC Paderborn.
At that stage, West Ham were still attempting to convince Celtic to sell. The latest report suggests those negotiations have now reached a successful conclusion.
Celtic had already received considerable interest in Engels, including bids from Nottingham Forest earlier this year, but West Ham have remained persistent throughout the summer.
The Belgian joined Celtic from Augsburg in August 2024 and became an important part of their midfield before emerging as one of Nuno Espírito Santo’s priority targets.
Engels would give Nuno another technically strong central-midfield option as West Ham attempt to secure an immediate return to the Premier League.
Official confirmation from West Ham and Celtic is still required, but Plettenberg’s latest update indicates the fee and contractual terms are now agreed and the transfer is set to go through.
