Burnley are expected to be without three first-team players when West Ham United visit Turf Moor for their Championship opener on Sunday.
The latest Burnley vs West Ham team news has Jordan Beyer, Josh Cullen and Jaydon Banel all unavailable for Nicky Hayen’s side.
West Ham begin their Championship campaign at Turf Moor on Sunday 16 August, with kick-off at 4pm BST. The fixture will also be shown live on Sky Sports in the UK. West Ham have confirmed the fixture details, while Burnley’s official schedule lists the game as their opening league fixture of 2026/27.
Burnley vs West Ham team news ahead of Turf Moor clash
According to talkSPORT, Burnley will be without long-term absentees Beyer and Cullen, while Banel has also been ruled out for several weeks after suffering an injury in training.
Beyer has not featured competitively since December 2023 because of a serious knee injury. Cullen is continuing his recovery from an ACL injury and is not expected to return until at least October.
Banel’s absence is the more recent setback. The forward had been involved throughout Burnley’s pre-season programme and spoke to the club’s official website in July about preparing for the new campaign, but he is now set to miss the start of the Championship season.
West Ham have fitness concerns of their own. Tomáš Souček will miss the trip after suffering an ankle injury while playing for Czechia at the World Cup, while Keiber Lamadrid is considered a doubt following a knee problem. Souček’s World Cup injury is also recorded on his official West Ham profile.
Nuno Espírito Santo must therefore make changes for West Ham’s first Championship fixture in 14 years. ReadWestHam has already looked at the starting XI Nuno could select against Burnley, with several places still to be decided before Sunday.
Burnley’s absences give Nuno another factor to consider as West Ham look to begin their push for an immediate Premier League return with a positive result at Turf Moor.
