Burnley v West Ham United begins the Hammers’ 2026/27 Championship campaign on Sunday, with Nuno Espírito Santo’s side travelling to Turf Moor for their first league match since relegation from the Premier League.
West Ham warmed up for the new season by beating Portsmouth 3-1 in the Carabao Cup, but attention now turns to a considerably bigger assignment against another of last season’s relegated sides.
The Hammers have already had an injury concern ahead of the trip, with ReadWestHam reporting on Edson Álvarez’s fitness after he was forced off against Portsmouth.
Supporters will at least be able to watch Nuno’s first Championship league fixture live in the UK.
Burnley v West Ham TV channel and kick-off time
Burnley v West Ham kicks off at 4pm BST on Sunday 16 August at Turf Moor.
Sky Sports currently lists the Championship opener for live coverage on Sky Sports Football and Sky Sports Main Event, allowing subscribers to watch the entire match.
West Ham have also officially confirmed the date, venue and 4pm kick-off time for their opening league fixture.
It is an intriguing opening test for Nuno.
Both clubs were relegated from the Premier League last season and will harbour ambitions of returning immediately, meaning West Ham have been handed an early opportunity to measure themselves against another likely promotion contender.
After months of transfers, squad rebuilding and pre-season preparation, Sunday is when West Ham’s promotion campaign really begins.
