Fulham are reportedly closing in on West Ham target Jordan James after moving ahead of the Hammers and Wolves.
The Wales international is expected to leave Rennes following an excellent Championship loan with Leicester City.
Alan Nixon reports that Fulham are now the likely destination for the 22-year-old. West Ham and Wolves had both identified James as a possible midfield addition ahead of their promotion campaigns.
The Premier League opportunity gives Fulham a significant advantage. James wants regular football after struggling to secure a consistent role in France, but remaining in the top flight would naturally appeal more than dropping into the Championship.
Football League World reports that Fulham are ready to advance a deal, leaving West Ham and Wolves preparing to consider alternative targets.

James demonstrated his quality during a productive season with Leicester. He recorded 11 goals and four assists across 34 Championship appearances despite the Foxes enduring a difficult campaign.
The former Birmingham City midfielder can operate in defensive, central or attacking roles. His energy, ball-carrying ability and goal threat would have offered Nuno Espírito Santo a more dynamic option.
West Ham still need greater control and creativity in the middle of the pitch. ReadWestHam’s assessment of the four remaining squad holes identified a controlling midfielder as the leading priority following the goalless draw against Rangers.
James had previously been viewed as a potential replacement for Mateus Fernandes. His strong Championship record and age also fitted West Ham’s aim of signing players capable of contributing after promotion.
No completed agreement with Fulham has been announced. However, West Ham target Jordan James now appears increasingly likely to remain in the Premier League.
The Hammers must move quickly towards their next midfield option if Fulham complete the deal.
