West Ham United may be forced to reconsider their transfer stance on Jean-Clair Todibo after the defender reportedly continued his refusal to play for the club.
Todibo is claimed to have refused to feature against Leeds United on the final day of last season following his breakdown in relations with Nuno Espírito Santo.
The Frenchman reportedly maintained his position during West Ham’s recent behind-closed-doors friendly against Colchester United. He did not feature as the Hammers secured a 3-2 victory at Rush Green.
According to The West Ham Way, relaying information from ExWHUEmployee, several clubs have now enquired about taking Todibo on loan.
West Ham would prefer a permanent transfer, but they have yet to receive an acceptable offer.
Todibo stand-off leaves West Ham with difficult decision
The Hammers paid around £35m to sign Todibo permanently from Nice following his initial loan spell at the London Stadium.
A permanent departure would allow West Ham to recover part of their investment and remove an unsettled player from Nuno’s squad. However, the absence of willing buyers could force the club to sanction a temporary move.
West Ham had previously rejected the prospect of a straightforward loan exit, preferring either a sale or a deal containing firm purchase guarantees.
Their negotiating position is now becoming increasingly difficult. Keeping Todibo would offer little value if he remains unwilling to play under Nuno, while a basic loan could simply delay the same transfer problem until next summer.
West Ham could seek an obligation to buy based on achievable conditions. A substantial loan fee and full coverage of the defender’s wages would also reduce the financial impact.
Todibo is under contract until 2029, so the Hammers retain some protection over his value. His continued absence from matches could weaken their position as the transfer window progresses.
A solution now appears necessary for both parties before West Ham begin their Championship campaign.
