Roma are expected to agree personal terms with Crysencio Summerville before making a formal offer to West Ham United.
Fabrizio Romano reports that the Serie A club have built a good relationship with the winger and his representatives during talks over a possible summer transfer.
No agreement has yet been finalised, while West Ham have not accepted a bid for the Netherlands international.
However, Roma are now working to settle the player side of the deal before opening formal negotiations with the Hammers.
The latest update suggests Summerville would be open to the move should the two clubs reach an agreement over the fee.
West Ham wait for acceptable Summerville bid
West Ham remain in a strong negotiating position despite their relegation to the Championship.
Summerville has three years remaining on his contract and enhanced his reputation with two goals during the Netherlands’ World Cup campaign.
Roma have reportedly discussed a package worth around €40million, while West Ham have been seeking more than €50m for one of their leading attacking players.
As Read West Ham reported after Roma’s opening approach, the Hammers were right to reject a proposal which fell short of their valuation.
The club have already raised significant funds through the sale of Mateus Fernandes and do not need to accept the first offer they receive.
Romano’s latest update states that Roma are moving towards agreeing personal terms, although nothing has yet been confirmed and no club-to-club agreement is in place.
Manchester United and several other Premier League clubs have also shown interest in Summerville this summer.
Nuno Espírito Santo would prefer an early resolution because the winger could play a major role in West Ham’s promotion push if he remains.
Roma’s progress increases the chances of a departure, but the decisive stage will begin only when West Ham receive a bid which reflects their valuation.
