  • West Ham were relegated from the Premier League
  • The Hammers need to raise £150 million this summer
  • Callum Wilson looks unlikely to renew his contract

West Ham United were relegated from the Premier League on Sunday. The Hammers had to beat Leeds United and hope other results went their way. They did their bit, winning 3-0, but a 1-0 win for Tottenham Hotspur over Everton condemned the Irons to the drop.

Whilst Nuno Espirito Santo will stay at the club, West Ham are set for an uncertain summer. The club has to raise £150 million and the quickest route to that is through player sales, with Mateus Fernandes and Crysencio Summerville expected to be the first names out of the London Stadium.

Bringing funds is one thing, but the Hammers still have to have a squad when the Championship starts in August and one player originally tipped to stay, now has one foot out of the door.

Callum Wilson appears to announce West Ham exit

Callum Wilson has appeared to announce his West Ham exit on social media. The 34-year-old had been reported to be looking to sign a new deal with the club, regardless of league position, but it now seems the former Newcastle United striker is heading for the exit door.

Via his Instagram, Wilson appeared to say goodbye to the Hammers faithful.

“It hurts. We have failed as a team and definitely fallen short of everyone’s expectations. It was well documented that I had a history with West Ham, yet from the moment I arrived, I felt nothing but welcomed by all the fans here.

“I felt really good and positive coming into this season, and I believe I could have contributed more given the opportunity. As you could see, my time on the pitch was very limited at times, but that was out of my control. I’ve always trained hard, kept my integrity, and given my all whenever I’ve been allowed to wear the iconic Claret and Blue shirt.

“I’m sad and extremely disappointed that it has ended this way. This club deserves so much better because there are so many unbelievable people behind the scenes that you fans don’t always get to see.

“For now, all I can say is thank you. Thank you to everyone who supported us. Your passion is amazing, and I truly hope you return to the Premier League, where you belong, as soon as possible.

“Take care, Callum.”

Whilst Wilson hoped to do more, Nuno did not favour the forward as much as the 34-year-old would have liked and with the Portuguese staying, his exit feels inevitable, with the player unlikely to renew his one-year-deal.

The forward will leave after scoring seven goals for the Irons, many coming late in the game, including winners over Spurs and Everton.
