  • West Ham will play in the Championship next season
  • Edson Alvarez, who is on-loan with Fenerbahce, does not want to play in the second division
  • Despite this, the midfielder has little options for a move

West Ham United were relegated from the Premier League on Sunday as results failed to go their way. The Hammers beat Leeds United 3-0, but Tottenham Hotspur beat Everton 1-0 to end the Irons 14 year stay in the top flight.

Nuno Espirito Santo is likely to stay at the club this summer but the team are set for an uncertain time with £150 million needing to be raised before West Ham can even think about rebuilding for life in the Championship.

Player sales is the easiest way to that, and whilst Mateus Fernandes and Konstantinos Mavropanos are expected to be the big names out the door, others will have to go. The Hammers have a number of loan players that could leave, but shifting some could be harder than others.

Edson Alvarez has limited options this summer

Edson Alvarez, who is has been out on-loan with Fenerbahce, does not want to play Championship football, but an escape route to his Turkish loan side is off the table with the side opting to not sign the midfielder on a permanent deal.

According to Turkish outlet, Star Gazette, the Mexican international has no desire to return to West Ham, especially not in England’s second tier, but his exit option are limited given his performances and injuries this season.

This isn’t the best news for the Hammers, with it hoped Alvarez would be a player that they hoped they could use to raise funds with. Now, they could be stuck with an expensive player that does not want to feature for the team.

West Ham will also need to move on fellow midfielder James Ward-Prowse, with Nuno staying at the club. The Hammers boss made it clear that the former Southampton boss was not part of his plans this season, and that stance is not expected to change into next, although their will be more of a market for the player.
