West Ham United’s pursuit of a new striker looks to have taken an interesting route, with Pape Moussa Fall emerging as a genuine target ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Hammers remain in the Premier League relegation zone, two points behind Tottenham Hotspur, with two matches remaining. Regardless of West Ham’s season outcome, there will be an expectation that a squad reshuffle will ensue, with a number of players being linked with moves away.

Fall has been noted as a West Ham target in recent weeks, with a recent report suggesting the club have ramped up their interest.

Who is ‘Physical Phenomenon’ Pape Moussa Fall?

Firstly, Fall immediately jumps out physically at 6 feet 6 inches tall. The striker has been described as a “physical phenomenon” by prominent talent scouts, and footage of his unique combination of size, agility, and momentum has drawn attention to his progression. However, the 21-year-old is much more than his physique.

As expected, given his physical profile, Fall enjoys battles with his opposing markers and excels in the air. He is more than just a conventional target man; he attacks space effectively within the box and has surprisingly proficent acceleration given his stature.

Fall, who was born in Pikine, Senegal, attended the renowned Generation Foot program, which has produced Sadio Mané and Ismaïla Sarr in the past, before travelling to Europe. The centre-forward has flourished this season on loan at RAAL La Louvière from parent club Metz, scoring consistently and quickly raising his profile across Europe, following stints in Belgium with RFC Seraing the two previous campaigns.

The Senegalese striker has scored 14 goals this season across all competitions, helping La Louvière preserve their first-division status in Belgium after a second-to-last finish in the Belgian Pro League first phase before the traditional split.

According to TEAMtalk, West Ham’s leading interest is reportedly being rivalled by fellow London club Crystal Palace. Fulham and Stuttgart have also shown enthusiasm in a deal, alongside a host of clubs in Germany, England, and France.

How viable an option is Fall for West Ham?

The allure is clear to Nuno Espírito Santo. West Ham has sorely lacked a dependable attacking focal point this season. In the winter transfer window, West Ham went into the market to address the issue with Valentín Castellanos and Pablo Felipe, but the pair have only four goals between them. While 34-year-old Callum Wilson has transitioned into a super sub, unable to make a desirable outcome outside of cameos.

Metz are reportedly prepared to accept bids in the area of £5 million to £6 million following their relegation woes from Ligue 1, making Fall one of the cheapest young striker options on the market. A younger, developing addition would appeal to the club’s management, given the ongoing uncertainties surrounding West Ham’s finances and long-term team planning.

Fall’s arrival would be a high-upside project rather than just a lower-league risk.
