- West Ham United are in the relegation zone with three matches remaining
- Roma make ‘contact’ with Hammers’ Crysencio Summerville
- The Dutch winger has scored five Premier League goals this season
West Ham United’s 3-0 away loss to Brentford last weekend severely damaged their chances of Premier League survival as they are firmly embroiled in a relegation fight.
The Irons are 18th in the league standings after relegation rivals Tottenham Hotspur defeated Aston Villa, and face the prospect of playing outside England’s top flight for the first time since 2011.
The impact of relegation has been widely reported and would see a number of assets attract interest domestically and abroad. As demand for such grows, Roma are one of the clubs considering a summer move for West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville, reports La Roma 24.
Roma renew ‘contact’ in Crysencio Summerville
24-year-old Summerville has emerged as a crucial player for the club in his second season after arriving from Leeds United in 2024. The mecurial Dutchman has scored five goals in league play, adding a further assist, and while the volume of his production does not jump out, the timing of his goals has given West Ham a chance of survival since the turn of the year.
Summerville, who was brought to East London for £25m plus add-ons, has drawn attention from a number of top-tier clubs in England and now abroad.
Ronald Koeman earmarked Summerville as a running option for a surprise World Cup call-up, which looks more probable following Xavi Simons’ season-ending injury. The former Feyenoord winger was scheduled to make his senior debut for the Netherlands in March but remained with West Ham to rehab an injury.
Throughout the current season, Serie A team Roma has frequently lacked forward vigour. The only player who has consistently performed is Donyell Malen – who arrived in Italy in January and has contributed to 13 goals and conunting – and the Giallorossi are attempting to duplicate that move with Summerville after making ‘contact.’
Summerville was on the shortlist of Roma in January, but instead Gian Piero Gasperini and co decided to go with Malen.
