- West Ham lost 3-0 to Brentford on Saturday
- The loss drops the Hammers into the Premier League bottom three
- Jarrod Bowen was among a number of Irons who could not find a finishing touch
West Ham United’s good form came to a crashing halt as they lost 3-0 to Brentford on Saturday. The Hammers had their chances, but were second best on a day that sees them return to the Premier League’s bottom three.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s team played a game of two halves but in the end defensive frailty’s and the lack of a finishing touch meant West Ham had little chance. Hammers captain Jarrod Bowen, told the club’s official website about just how frustrating it is, and how they can bounce back.
“It’s really frustrating. I think all of their goals came from mistakes by us, and they could have been avoided, but we had chances in the game, hit the woodwork four times and had a goal disallowed. It felt like things just weren’t falling for us at times.
“The start of the game wasn’t great from us. They had a chance quickly from kick-off, and then scored, which was disappointing. But the reaction was good, we hit the post and went so close to going level through Dinos. We felt we were in a good place going into half-time, and that we could get something out of the game.
“Even at 2-0, after the penalty, we knew that we’d been in those sorts of situations before and maybe opened up. It didn’t go our way, but I don’t think anyone ever gave up – I think you can see that from the chances we created.
“We had good moments in a game that on another day could’ve gone a different way. It’s fine margins, and they’re a good side who have gone sixth today. Ultimately, we haven’t done enough, and now we have to bounce back.”
Moving on quickly is key for West Ham
For West Ham, they have to move on from the result as quickly as possible. Whilst their top flight status has dropped out of their hands, a lot can change in the three Premier League games remaining.
Every game is massive for the Hammers, and the visit of title-chasing Arsenal will be no different.
“We can’t dwell on today’s result,” Bowen added. “It’s not easy standing and talking when things haven’t gone well, but we’ve done too much to get into the position we’re in.
“There’s always a next challenge coming up, and we know that it’s Arsenal next. We wanted to win today, but now we have to shift our focus to making sure we get it right next weekend.”
