  • West Ham are interested in Bayern Munich’s Hiroki Ito
  • Leeds United and Brighton & Hove Albion are also interested
  • The Hammers are expected to be in the market for a central defender this summer

West Ham United have joined two other Premier League sides in enquiring about Bayern Munich defender Hiroki Ito. The 26-year-old joined the Bavarian’s from VFB Stuttgart in 2024 and is said to be available this summer.

According to the Yorkshire Post, the Hammers have joined Leeds United and Brighton & Hove Albion in monitoring the defender. Ito’s asking price is rumoured to be around £20 million, as Bayern Munich paid £26 million for the 26-year-old back in 2024.

West Ham will be in the marked for a central defender this summer, with loanee Axel Disasi at the top of the list. Should the Iron’s borrowed defender prove out of their price range, Ito represents a solid other choice.

West Ham enquire about Hiroki Ito

Ito may have been on the books of Bayern Munich since 2024, but has only made 28 appearances for the club, with injuries plaguing his time at the Allianz Arena. Now well down the pecking order in Vincent Kompany’s team, a move for the Japanese international seems very likely.

Whilst Bayern are not rushing to move the 26-year-old on, there is no doubt he want’s more football and the Premier League is lurking. The German giants are said to be open to offers with them hoping to reinvest where they can next season.

West Ham are after another central defender this summer. Disasi could prove out of their price range if Chelsea choose not to budge on the £40 million originally demanded, and Konstantinos Mavropanos‘s performances are attracting interest from Champions League clubs.

Ito could represent a cheaper option for the Hammers, and at 26, offer a player going into his prime, should he be able to avoid more injuries.
