West Ham United took a huge step to their goals this weekend, beating Wolverhampton Wanderers 4-0 to step out of the Premier League’s bottom three. Whilst Nuno Espirito Santo’s side were taking their own steps, a number of Hammers featured in Europe and throughout the English football pyramid.
Nine West Ham players saw action out on-loan this weekend.
European leagues
In Germany, Callum Marshall helped VFL Bochum to a 4-1 win that sees them move closer to safety in the 2. Bundesliga.
Introduced at half-time with the score at 2-0, Marshall made an immediate impact. The 21-year-old had the crucial touch as he set up Farid Alfa-Ruprecht for the team’s third goal of the afternoon. Philip Hofmann would round out the win for Bochum as the game closed out.
In Italy, Niclas Fullkrug was introduced at half-time for AC Milan. The Rossoneri would lose 3-0 to Udinese at San Siro making it their third defeat in four games. The loss likely ends the team’s slim Scudetto hopes.
In Hungary, Krisztian Hegyi kept a clean sheet for MTK Budapest as they recorded a3-0 win. It is the Hungarian youth international’s second shutout in three games.
English leagues
In the Premier League, James Ward-Prowse played the full 90 minutes for Burnley in their 2- defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion. The Clarets competed well for much of the game, but the away side defended well and put away their chances, condemning Burnley to another loss,
In the Championship, George Earthy was a second-half substitute for Roy Hodgson’s Bristol City on Saturday. The full-back was deployed early in the second as the Robins played out a 0-0 draw with Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road.
A further step down in League One, Kaelan Casey was a late substitute for Leyton Orient. The O’s would lose 2-1 to champions-elect, Lincoln City but pushed hard for an equalizer after the introduction of Casey.
Mason Terry and Ryan Battrum both played 90 mins for Braintree Town in the National League. The already relegated side could not stop Forest Green Rovers from marching through, losing 3-1 to Robbie Savage’s side.
Josh Landers came on late for Boreham Wood as they kept pace with 3rd placed Carlisle United with a 3-0 win over Hartlepool United. Matt Rush scored a second-half hattrick to secure the win.
