  • Mads Hermansen made his Denmark debut in a 4-0 win over North Macedonia
  • Tomas Soucek came on as Czechia beat Ireland on penalties
  • Callum Marshall’s Northern Ireland lost 2-0 to Italy

West Ham United have a number of players representing their nations in this international break. For some it was jubilation as they took one step closer to this summer’s World Cup and for other’s it was heartbreak as the journey ended.

West Ham’s World Cup qualifiers

Mads Hermsen, making his senior debut for Denmark, kept a clean sheet as the Danes dismantled North Macedonia 4-0. The West Ham shot stopper didn’t have much to do, with his nation limiting their opposition to zero shots.

Gustav Isaksen score a brace as Mikkel Damsgaard and Christian Norgaard netted either side to guide Denmark into a playoff final.

Hermansen‘s country will now face Tomas Soucek and Czechia in the final.

Soucek’s nation came from 2-0 down to beat the Republic of Ireland on penalties. The first-half saw three goals as Ireland roared to a strong lead. The home side responded before half-time with Patrik Schick scoring a spot kick on the stroke of the break.

Soucek was introduced in the second-half and Czechia would find their equalizer in the dying moments of the game. They would then take Ireland all the way, with West Ham‘s midfielder scoring his penalty to take the nation through.

Czechia will now head to Denmark on Tuesday, for a place at the World Cup in the USA this summer.

Callum Marshall, on-loan with VFL Bochum from the Irons, was an unused substitute as Northern Ireland fell to Italy 2-0 last night.

In Bergamo the Northern Ireland side held on for as long as possible but goals from Sandro Tonali and Moise Kean were enough to send Italy through, where they will face Bosnia & Herzegovinia after they beat Wales.
