West Ham United are in the midst of a relegation fight in the Premier League. The Hammers have completely changed in 2026 and are now one of the form team’s in the division. Despite their form, the Irons remain in the bottom three, but only on goal difference.
Nuno Espirito Santo brought in Paco Jemez to revolutionise the defence, something that has worked ten-fold. Despite that being the new poster boy of this West Ham team in 2026, the key part that has the Hammers taking steps towards safety, is effort and togetherness.
One player that optimises all the things that are making West Ham better, is Tomas Soucek. The 31-year-old has been at the club since 2020, making over 250 appearances for the club, including being a massive part of the side that won the UEFA Conference League in 2023.
Soucek has been the Iron’s utility man for a long time but the Czechia international’s contract is up in the summer of 2027 and it is widely reported that the club will not renew it. With this in mind, the midfielder is likely to leave the club this summer, as West Ham look to sell a number of players, regardless of their Premier League status.
Tomas Soucek’s imperious West Ham career
Since joining West Ham in 2020, initially on-loan, the now 31-year-old has been an ever present for the Hammers. Utilised in any midfield position, Soucek has given his all in every single area of the position.
From being a defensive midfielder by trade, the player has found an eye for goal netting 43 goals for the Irons to date, with a lot of them being hugely important during seven campaigns in West Ham colours. This season is no different, with Soucek netting five goals this season in what is one of the most difficult since he walked through the door at the London Stadium.
Tomas Soucek’s West Ham United Statistics
| Appearances | Goals | Assists |
| 262 | 43 | 11 |
It is likely their are many who would like to see the 31-year-old stay with Irons but the midfielder is one of the club’s highest earner. Alongside he is one of the older members of the squad and one of the only with his contract running down. The Hammers will have to sell this summer, no matter the league they will play in next year and unfortunately, Soucek is a leading candidate.
