West Ham United sit one point from Premier League safety after a 2-0 loss to Aston Villa on Sunday. Despite this, the club’s hierarchy remain optimistic of the club’s chances of remaining in the top flight and are looking at candidates that could strengthen the Hammers.

Nuno Espirito Santo is beginning to put his stamp on the West Ham team, with results drastically improving since the turn of the year. The club will have to sell in the summer, regardless of their league for next season but January signing like Axel Disasi have been a success.

According to CaughtOffside, Disasi is not the only player West Ham would like to sign from Chelsea. Andrey Santos, the Brazilian midfielder, is said to be a target for the Hammers this summer, with the 21-year-old seeking consistent football.

Manchester United, Juventus and Inter are all fellow suitors of Santos but his desire for guaranteed football could give a side lower down the pecking order a strong chance to sign the player. This alone, could give the Irons and advantage, with Chelsea also in need of offloading some of their bloated squad.

Andrey Santos’s continued development

Santos returned to Chelsea at the beginning of this season, following a strong loan spell with Strasbourg in France. The 21-year-old scored 11 goals and got four assists under now Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior.

Unfortunately for the midfielder, his development has hit a bump in the road this season. Under Enzo Maresca, Santos failed to hold down a starting spot and since Rosenior has been appointed, the 21-year-old has often featured from the bench after a short run in the side.

Santos, who made his senior Brazil debut this in late 2025, is keen for regular football going forward. This is what is said to leave the player sceptical about a move to likes of Manchester United, as he wants more guarantees.

The move is said to favour the likes of West Ham, given they would be able to deliver those guarantees and have helped develop fellow midfielder Mateus Fernandes.

Santos is said to be available for around £40m, with Chelsea’s need to meet PSR regulations. If West Ham stay up, and balance the books, The 21-year-old would be a marquee signing.
