The situation: How the weekend’s results change West Ham’s survival chances

West Ham United put on a spirited performance as they held Manchester City to a 1-1 draw at the London Stadium. The defensive stand temporarily took the Hammers out of the bottom three, showing just how important the point could be.

West Ham‘s performance was full of grit and determination, something Nuno Espirito Santo has been trying to instil into his team in 2026. To stay in the Premier League you need to not only be able to defend well but dig in in games like Saturday’s draw, and the Hammers are doing both.

The result took the Iron’s outside of the relegation zone for the night. West Ham would eventually return to the bottom three but are still level on points with Nottingham Forest, and only in their on goal difference.

Forest, who played on Sunday, saw out a 0-0 draw with Fulham. The host’s thought they had won the game in the second-half, but VAR ruled out Dan Ndoye’s strike.

Tottenham Hotspur finally stopped their losing run with a 1-1 draw against Liverpool at Anfield. Spurs looked set to lose before Richarlison scored from close range in the dying minutes of the game.

That point keeps Tottenham above West Ham but still leaves them in trouble. Igor Tudor’s team are just a point above the Hammers and Forest. They could easily be the team to drop in should both team’s continue to pick up points at their current rate.

Leeds United missed a chance to get closer to the magic 38 points mark as they failed to beat Crystal Palace. Dominic Calvert-Lewin missed a penalty in the first-half but things could have been worse when Gabriel Gudmundsson was sent off on the 45 minute mark.

Whilst Leeds remain on 32 points and closer to the bottom three, Crystal Palace are now on 39 points and look a lot closer to safety than anyone below them.

Burnley put on a brave showing as they held off AFC Bournemouth for a 0-0 draw. Unfortunately for Scott Parker’s men, draws don’t do much for them and their league position keeping them nine points behind West Ham and safety.

Wolverhampton Wanderers play Brentford tonight and whilst they are all but down, can close the gap to Burnley to one point with a win.

Rob Edward’s team have won two of their last five and seem to be playing with a lot more freedom now. Wolves could begin to make some team’s sweat if they get another positive result tonight.
