“Keep it up”: West Ham’s goal scoring defender is full of belief

West Ham United secured a huge point as they drew with Manchester City on Saturday night. A stout defensive display from the Hammers takes them out of the bottom three for the time being and continues to instil confidence in the 2026 version of West Ham.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s team put in a monumental effort, focusing on doing the basic’s well. The result was a performance that felt and looked together. West Ham held off wave after wave of City attack, holding their own defensively against the title chasing side.

Konstantinos Mavropanos was the man to get the all important equaliser in the game, as he headed home Jarrod Bowen‘s corner. The big Greek returned to the team in the league, after missing the 1-0 win over Fulham. In a back three with Axel Disasi and Jean-Clair Todibo, Mavropanos put his body on the line to secure the draw.

After the game, the 28-year-old told the club’s official website that the effort from the whole team was immense:

“I think from the whole team, the effort was amazing because we didn’t let them create something really dangerous in open play,

“Obviously, they had also some chances from set-pieces when we were defending deep, but I think our defending was amazing.

“We knew that it was going to be a tough game, as the opponent is really tough, and it’s an important point for us.”

Momentum always key for West Ham

Mavropanos was not only happy to net his first West Ham goal at the London Stadium but the Greek was also happy because of just how important the goal could be. It’s all about keeping momentum going for the Hammers, with the point keeping the team on the right track in the Premier League.

The 28-year-old acknowledged there is still a lot of work to do but that things are slowly coming together:

“We’ve trained a lot on corners and it was finally a moment for me to score because it’s been a while,” he smiled.

“I’m really happy that I did it in this important game, and especially at home, because it’s my first goal at home. I hope that I gave a lot of happiness to the fans as well.

“We had a really tough first half of the season, but we worked so hard, and now we can show it on the pitch as well,” he said.

“We just want to keep it up and keep the momentum.”
