West Ham United might be in a battle to stay in the Premier League this season, but that has not stopped them planning for the future. Nuno Espiritio Santo’s team already spent big in January and are hoping to continue that improvement in summer, providing they complete their escape of the bottom three.
The Hammers have been named as potential suitors for Juventus defender, Federico Gatti. The 25-year-old has also been linked with Nottingham Forest, with a potential move to England on the cards for this summer.
According to La Gazzetta dello sport, Gatti is available for around £20m, with both Premier League clubs monitoring his situation. The fee could change depending on the status of the potential suitor, and whether or not they remain in the top flight.
Gatti has been a regular starter for Juventus in central defence this season – but the club are said to be open to letting the 27-year-old go, so long as the price is right, and the proposal works for both the player, and two clubs.
Who is Federico Gatti?
Gatti is an Italian central defender, who joined Juventus in January of 2022, from Frosinone, before completing the season with the latter. Since then, the 27-year-old has been a main stay in the Turin side’s team, playing at least 25 games in every season with the club.
Federico Gatti’s 2025/26 Juventus Statistics
| Appearances | Goals | Clean Sheets |
| 22 | 2 | 4 |
Last season was his best with the club, as Gatti appeared 42 times as Juventus once again qualified for the Champions League, finishing 4th in Serie A.
Gatti would fit a similar profile to likes the of Konstantinos Mavropanos, who has been one of West Ham’s best defenders under Nuno. Not only is the Italian a strong bodies defender like Mavropanos, but he also possess strong skills with the ball.
This season, Gatti has a passing success rate of 91.3% and has made 60% of his long balls find their intended target.
The conditions of a deal
West Ham and Nottingham Forest’s interest in the defender is said to land on certain conditions. One being, that whilst Juventus are happy to sell, they need their replacement, and that replacement is reportedly AFC Bournemouth’s Marcos Senesi.
The Argentinian has continued to impress after returning from injury. Senesi’s potential arrival would open the door for Gatti’s exit, with both the Hammers and Forest sat in the waiting area.
Regardless of conditions, any potential move would more than likely rely on the Irons survival. Nuno’s team currently sit three points adrift.
