West Ham have reportedly ‘launched’ a late bid to sign Benfica star Darwin Nunez before the transfer deadline passes.
The Hammers had been expected to bring a striker to the London Stadium during the January window but have so far failed in any attempt.
Now, on the final day moves are permitted, an audacious late swoop for a 22-year-old Nunez could be forthcoming.
According to a report from the Daily Mail, as cited by Sky Sports News on Twitter, the Irons will attempt to sign the Uruguayan.
West Ham are pushing to complete a deal for Benfica striker Darwin Nunez on a permanent transfer.

The report also mentions failed swoops to raid Premier League rivals of Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips.
This season Nunez – tipped to become the ‘best in the world’ by Jorge Jesus – has scored 20 times and provided two assists in just 25 appearances across all competitions.
READ WEST HAM VERDICT
Valued at £28.8million and under in Portugal contract until 2025 (Transfermarkt), West Ham would likely have to match a previous £42.7million asking price to make this deal happen.
So late in the window and with the seven-cap star currently in South America with Uruguay, this is a logistical nightmare to complete before the deadline.
Albeit a wholly worthwhile venture given the ace’s quality and the levels of interest from around Europe, this is one David Moyes may just have left a little too late.
