Ray Parlour tips West Ham for stunning Edinson Cavani swoop

Former Premier League midfielder Ray Parlour has suggested West Ham could make a sensational move for Edinson Cavani in January.

Despite making a strong start to the new season, the Hammers are still in need of an additional striker to supplement the in-form Michail Antonio

By stark contrast, Manchester United have a wealth of attacking options and Cavani has found himself down the pecking order at Old Trafford.

Speaking on talkSPORT Breakfast [01/10/21], Parlour mooted the idea of the Irons move for the 34-year-old during the mid-season window.

If he did move on in January, Cavani, and said ‘I’m not happy, I want to play football’, would West Ham come in for Cavani? Wages won’t be a problem for West Ham. The problem is then, [Michail] Antonio wants to play every week, do you play two up front and change your tactics? Because Cavani is not going to West Ham to sit on the bench.

Capped a remarkable 123 times by Uruguay, Cavani has been a prolific goalscorer throughout a distinguished career.

However, this season the man hailed as ‘remarkable’ by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has only managed three fleeting appearances from the bench.

Signing a centre-forward in January could still prove pivotal if David Moyes’ side are going to fulfil all their early-season promise

Just how little of a problem Cavani’s wages would be is another matter altogether.

Tipped to head back to South America following his Manchester United stint, perhaps a six-month loan deal to the London Stadium would be the perfect sign off.

matchday.
