Former Premier League striker Gabby Agbonlahor has backed West Ham to sign a ‘top centre-forward’ before the end of the month.
This comes following a report from The Express claiming that the Hammers had rejected the opportunity to sign as many as four different forward options this summer.
Instead, David Moyes is currently having to rely heavily on the continued form and fitness of Michail Antonio.
Speaking to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa man has claimed that the Irons will eventually land an additional option before the deadline passes.
If you bring in a striker at West Ham you’re not going to bring in anybody better than him (Antonio). But what you’ve got to look at, if he’s injured they don’t have the same threat. They need someone else in there who can come in when he’s injured, come on after 60 minutes. You need that second striker. Antonio has been renowned for his hamstring issues. It’s all good now with the start that he’s had but he does hurt his hamstrings quite a lot. You don’t want to be stuck with no striker. They need to go out and find a good quality striker. You’ve seen Gabriel Jesus play second fiddle to Sergio Aguero at Man City, you see it at a lot of teams. I don’t see why you can’t buy a top centre-forward. Even if Antonio is your number one, he might go through a bad run of games. You need competition. There’s also the Europa League games so they definitely need a striker before the window closes.
The 31-year-old Antonio became West Ham’s top Premier League goalscorer on Monday with a match-defining brace against Leicester City.

Agbonlahor is spot on here.
Simply put, there is no way West Ham can be satisfied with their summer business unless adequate cover is found for Antonio.
Despite finding time to score 10 times in the Premier League last term, the soon to be Jamaica international missed 13 matches with various injuries.
