West Ham first-team coach Stuart Pearce has been explaining the transfer stance at the London Stadium this summer.
As things stand on the eve of a new campaign, the Hammers have only added Alphonse Areola to the squad that finished sixth in the Premier League last term.
Strong links with Fiorentina central defender Nikola Milenkovic continue to rumble on and a striker is expected to arrive before the window closes.
Speaking to talkSPORT Breakfast [12/08/21], as cited on Twitter, Pearce acted to allay fears over perceived inactivity.

Dave [Moyes] only wants to bring players in that are better than what we’ve got, and if he feels as though he’s bringing bodies in for the sake of it to appease supporters, he’s a strong enough man not to do that. We’ve made bids for certain players and not been able to get one or two for varying reasons but a little bit of common sense has to come into it. It’s very easy to go out there and fill your squad out with individuals, but the bottom line is; if they’re not good enough and better than what you’ve got, you’re better off sitting tight.
West Ham allowed Fabian Balbuena to leave the club as a free agent at the start of the summer, having sold Sebastien Haller in January to Ajax.

Few would doubt given the successes of last season that the first XI is strong enough to compete once again.
However, with the added workload of Europa League football and arguably a weaker squad currently, additions are going to be crucial in the coming weeks.
Whilst Pearce, David Moyes and co are right to hold out for the right players, as time goes by the need for numbers grows increasingly more apparent.
