Virals: West Ham join the race for Burnley striker Chris Wood

West Ham have reportedly entered the race to sign Burnley striker Chris Wood this summer.

The Hammers are joined by fellow Premier League sides Everton and Aston Villa in the pursuit of the 29-year-old.

This is according to a fresh report from Football Insider, as cited by West Ham News & Views on Twitter.

The report claims that Hammers boss David Moyes is a ‘big admirer’ of the New Zealand international’s physicality, finishing and ability to lead the line as a focal point.

In 2020/21, Wood netted 12 goals in 34 league outings – reaching double figures for the fourth consecutive campaign.

Described as ‘horrible to play against’ by all-time Premier League top goalscorer, Alan Shearer, the 6’3 frontman possesses all the attributes required as a target man.

Capped 56 times by New Zealand and with over 400 senior first-team appearances in England, Wood has a wealth of experience and would offer David Moyes a readymade option.

Valued at £7.2million and under contract at Turf Moor until 2023 (Transfermarkt), the report claims the Clarets will demand a fee in the region of £30million for the Kiwi.

That fee seems excessive for a 29-year-old with little to no resale value – potentially a stumbling block for the Irons’ interest.
