Mark Lawrenson predicts West Ham will beat Everton

BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson has backed West Ham to beat Everton 2-0 when the two sides clash on Sunday at the London Stadium.

Following a 2-1 victory over Burnley, last Monday night David Moyes’ men remain in the hunt for a top-four spot in the Premier League with four games remaining.

The Hammers head into the weekend’s action three points behind Chelsea and a win against the Toffees in east London could see elite European qualification become a real possibility as their nearest rivals take on Manchester City.

Lawrenson, not renowned for predicting West Ham victories, has told his BBC Sport column that he believes the Irons will come out on top.

West Ham were very impressive when they beat Burnley last weekend. I thought they were tailing off a bit after losing their previous two games, but they looked really strong at Turf Moor. Everton are much better on the road than they are at home but I think they are in for a difficult day in east London. The Hammers beat them at Goodison Park in January and I am expecting them to do the same at London Stadium on Sunday.

Moyes could be set to welcome back Declan Rice and Angelo Ogbonna to the ranks as the Scot goes in search of three points against his former employers.

If Lawrenson has predicted a West Ham win then the side must really be doing something right.

Ultimately with 12 points left to play for the Hammers must keep picking up wins and hope Chelsea slip up.

Were that to happen then what seemed the impossible Champions League dream may just become a reality.
