West Ham goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski might’ve failed to cover himself in glory as the Hammers slipped up against Newcastle on Saturday.

But the 36-year-old Polish stopper has enjoyed an impressive campaign as David Moyes’ side go in search of a remarkable top-four finish.

Aware of his failings as the Irons lost 3-2, Fabianski took to Instagram in the aftermath to apologise: “I’m really sorry for my performance. The boys have worked so hard to get a result.”

That response thoroughly impressed former Premier League ‘keeper, Paddy Kenny, who told Football Insider the Pole has earned the right to have an off-day.

I think nowadays, fans want players to react after the match. This is why they follow them on social media. He’s messed up so he’s apologised for it. That’s impressive. If he didn’t, people might come out and say he doesn’t care. It shows that he does care and that he’s genuinely sorry. He’s been brilliant for West Ham. He has seriously been one of their best players since he signed for them.

Kenny went on to say the apology for what he described as a ‘bad mistake’, showed Fabianski cared about what had transpired

Whilst the mistakes from Saturday can perhaps be forgiven, any more on the run-in could cost West Ham a place in Europe next season – something they have worked so hard for this season.

With Darren Randolph making a return to action with the Under 23s, Fabianski will know the pressure is back on to perform.
